State Fraud Prosecutor, Former Air Force JAG Officer Tom McCormick Files for District Judge

Tom McCormick made his campaign for District Judge official on Wednesday, filing his paperwork minutes after the qualification period began. McCormick, surrounded by more than twenty of his supporters, said he was humbled for and excited about the opportunity to run for the 18th JDC District Judge, Division B, seat.

“The outpouring of support we have received so early in the campaign has been amazing,” said McCormick. “The reason we have this much support is because the people of the district know I will ethically, diligently and effectively carry out the duties required of a District Judge.”

McCormick is the only announced candidate who has prosecuted cases in all three courts within the 18th Judicial District. He has served as the state fraud prosecutor with the Louisiana Attorney General’s office for the past ten years, prosecuting criminals who commit white collar crimes, food stamp fraud, tax fraud, insurance fraud, and contractor fraud. Also, McCormick is the only announced candidate who has served as a JAG (Judge Advocate General) Officer in the United States’ military. While serving in Iraq, he worked to prosecute terrorists who committed murder, rape, kidnapping, and IED attacks against our military personnel.

If elected District Judge, McCormick has committed to not only serving the people of the 18th JDC fairly and honestly, but he has also pledged to serve as a mentor and example to the children of the district. He plans to advocate innovative ideas that will make the 18th JDC run more effectively; these ideas include the development of a drug court, veterans court, and more rehabilitative services so released prisoners do not end up back in jail. He believes these ideas will ensure the citizens’ tax dollars are efficiently used.

Tom is a 1992 graduate from Brusly High School. In 1994, Tom McCormick married Candy Morales. Together they have two beautiful daughters in college, Skylar (LSU) and Ashley (SLU), and a son, Matt, who attends MSA West. McCormick is an active member in the Louisiana State Bar Association, Louisiana District Attorneys Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, American Legion Post 167 (Lifetime Member), Veterans of Foreign Wars Addis Post (Lifetime Member), Disabled Veterans of America, Air Force Association, Lions Club, Rotary International, and is a lifetime concealed carry holder. He has also coached and sponsored various youth athletic events for more than 20 years.

The election for District Judge will be held on March 24, with early voting occuring March 10-17. Division B of the 18th JDC consists of voters from parts of West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee Parishes.
