Thomas (Tom) McCormick is the Insurance Fraud Section Chief within the Louisiana Attorney General's Office. His office is part of the Louisiana Fraud Task Force whose mission is to investigate and prosecute all insurance related fraud within the state of Louisiana. Tom McCormick supervises seven other attorneys and is responsible for a caseload that averages about 800 felonies a year.

Before coming to the Attorney General's Office, Captain Tom McCormick was an active duty Judge Advocate General (JAG) with the U.S. Air Force. He has been with the U.S. Air Force since March 1995, and was last assigned to the 9018th Reserve Squadron located in Denver, CO. Tom received his commission from USAF Detachment 310 at Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2001. Before he left active duty in 2007, Capt. McCormick served as Air Defense Counsel for the 45th Space Wing, Patrick AFB, FL and Cape Canaveral Air Station, FL. In this role, he provided defense services to over 8,000 active duty personnel. Furthermore, Tom McCormick served as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at Vance AFP, OK. Moreover, he served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma and Middle District of Florida, where he prosecuted over 800 misdemeanor cases in Federal Court. In 2005, Captain McCormick was deployed to Iraq as a special prosecutor assigned to the Central Criminal Court of Iraq as part of Task Force 134, where he prosecuted over 325 Iraqi detainees/insurgents responsible for rape, murder, attacks and other crimes again coalition forces.

He is a 1992 graduate of Brusly High School in Brusly, LA. While serving at Tyndall AFB FL, then Airman McCormick was a 1996 graduate of Gulf Coast Community College (GCCC) and a 1997 graduate of Florida State University (FSU) with a major in Criminology. In May 2001, he earned his JD degree from Southern University Law Center. Throughout his career, Capt. McCormick has received numerous awards, medals and recognition, including the AFSA General Douglas MacArthur Award, USAF Robert Lowery JAG Award, Tyndall Airman of the Year in 1996 and 1997, Vance AFB Officer of the Year in 2002 and 2003, 4 Air Force Commendation Medals, 4 Outstanding Unit Awards, 2 National Defense Medals, Iraqi Freedom Medal and Global War on Terror Medal.

Tom McCormick is currently on the Board of Directors with the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C). NW3C provides training, investigative support and research to over 6,000 federal, state and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies worldwide in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of economic and high-tech crimes.

Furthermore, he is an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Louisiana District Attorney's Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, American Legion Post 167, Veterans of Foreign War, Disabled Veterans of America, Air Force Association, Lions Club and Rotary International. He is also a member of the Coastal Conservation of America Association and Wild Turkey Federation. Additionally, Governor John Bel Edwards and Attorney General Jeff Landry have appointed Tom to serve as a Board Member on the Louisiana Automobile Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority (LATIFPA).

In 1994, Thomas McCormick married the former Candy Morales of Plaquemine, LA. They have two daughters, Skylar (23) and Ashley (20) and one son, Matthew (14).

Experienced Prosecutor & Litigator

  • As a U.S. Air Force JAG Officer, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for Western District of OK, and Middle District of FL Assistant Attorney General, Tom has prosecuted and investigated thousands of cases in Federal and State Courts throughout the U.S. and Louisiana.
  • While deployed to Iraq, Tom prosecuted over 300 terrorists/insurgents for rape, murder, IED attacks & other crimes against Coalition Forces as a U.N. Special Prosecutor with the Central Criminal Court of Iraq.
  • Since his election in 2010, Tom serves on the Board of Directors with the National White Collar Crime Center representing over 6,200 law enforcement agencies with an annual budget of over $15 million.
